I love this game

You've taken MGS and broken it down to the simplest terms possible. You've even embraced the things that were frustrating about MGS, poor AI etc. and used that to make a more abstract puzzle game. Very fun to play, and well implemented in terms of graphics and sound.

Shame

This is a generally well-programmed game that looks great and could be very fun. However, the poor collision detection absolutely ruins it.

Lets itself down

This game seeps with style, the graphics, sound and story are all well above the usual standard for flash. I think people are making too much of a big deal about the voices, they are over-the-top yes, but nobody expects pro quality.

Unfortunately it seems like the gameplay is sacrificed to tell a story and show off fancy graphics. Longer, more action packed (I hesitate to say difficult, the levels are easy but it can be frustrating sometimes - a good balance would be longer levels which require quick reactions and not a lot of memorising where people are going to be).

Another thing I often find myself saying to flash artists is to improve your language, spelling mistakes or badly worded instructions can really ruin a game and betray and amateurish quality.

Missing something

This game is flawlessly coded, it looks great (apart from the fact I'm driving around on a plain blue background O.o) but it's just dull. The whole shoot 'n' upgrade thing is tired and after the first level I just drove round in circles and clicked on stuff.

Great game, but...

As I progressed a few little problems with the collision detection became more and more significant and more and more irratating. Well, not so much problems, but the big thick borders made it quite confusing as to where the obstacles where. And I was also unsure other whether my "feet" were included in collision detection.

Minor problems, I know, but they were annoying. Otherwise, great game, simple, very addictive. The music did really start to get on my nerves though.

Degree level?

It's odd you say your doing graphic design, I was going to say that the animation was okay but the style of it was gaudy and unprofessional. I found the interface confusing and the music was annoying also, but your main problem here is this is just not the kind of thing Newgrounds showcases.

Another "tutorial" on how to copy and paste?

So you just learnt how to do it, in other words, you're level of experiance with AS is just more than the people you're trying to teach. That makes you a bad teacher.

I've seen this a million times, badly made, rushed tutorials by mediocre programmers who can't think what to make. Copying and pasting code samples with no explanation does not help people at all, they won't be able to adapt it in any way, or even understand why what they see is happening. It's like passing off instructions for flat pack shelves as a tutorial on carpentry.

On top of that, your code is messy, simplistic and impractical. Do you really believe someone could make an RPG when if they had to add a crapload of code for every /wall/? Didn't think so.

As for the presentation, the whole keyboard thing was a bad idea. You end up scrolling through 4 pages at a time and having to go back. Use buttons like everyone else or, failing that, a master of AS like you should be able to add a delay in detecting the keypresses no?

In conclusion, try and think of a good use for this code you've picked up rather than passing it on to equally inept people. Failing that, write tutorials in HTML, flash is a terrible medium for stuff like this. And make them actually helpful.

Hello? "with no explanation" THERE IS AN EXPLANATION! Either next to the code or in the code itself u idiot!only people as stupid as you cant notice it

ROTK is Chinese

ROTK is set in ancient CHINA. DW was based on ROTK. This was based on DW.

BUUUT... you said the voices are Japanese? Why exactly?

Otherwise, okay game. Impressive actionscript and image minipulation, but spot-the-differences aren't the funnest of games. Having said that, this was pretty tough.

Insp-Chin responds:

ROTK is from China, they're chinese but the Dynasty Warriors is created by Japanese so I just follow the voice on the voice actors in Dynasty Warriors (Sangoku Musou) by Koei...

I planned to make the chinese voice but it seemed a bit weird and if I used the subtitle on chinese too it will be more weird, but no worries, this is the first time I tried on Japanese cause I never spoke on it...

And this time, I got a help from my friends who know Japanese, so we could learn a little about this translation, by the way thank you for saying it impressive :)

imz, thanks really! :D

Overall Pointless

Good points: it was original, that's about it.

Bad points: The basic principle is easy and doesn't need a tutorial. Half of the actionscript is pretty iffy (an example: a cursor works much faster if you just set the X and Y position of the cursor MC every frame rather than using startDrag). The graphics were ugly and everything was very cluttered, it was written badly and it doesn't teach you anything.

Very poor.

Smoke-Tower responds:

eh who cares what you think :)

Decent game

I'm not a fan of the whole racing genre, so I can't apreciate it. I am impressed with the quality of actionscript involved, the graphics are also pretty good.

A major downside, considering the point of this game: the music sucked.
